Castle area with a lot to experience
Örbyhus Castle is beautifully located by Lake Vendelsjön in Norduppland, 50 km north of Uppsala, in an area which has been the scene of Swedish history on several occasions.
The castle was the focus of national history in 1577 when the deposed king and Gustav Vasa’s eldest son, Erik XIV, consumed the fateful poisoned pea soup which led to his death on the 26th of February 1577.
VISIT & GUIDED TOURS
During the spring and summer season, guided tours are given of King Erik XIV’s prison, the castle park and the carriage museum. Guided tours take place at specified times or for larger groups by request.
You can also walk around the castle park and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and buildings. Here you can see, among other things, the magnificent oak that Gustav Vasa is said to have planted in the middle of the 16th century. Take the opportunity to eat a picnic on the lawns by Lake Vendelsjön. The castle parc is open all year round.
ÖRBYHUS CASTLE GARDEN
Within the castle area there is a small market-garden to visit "Örbyhus Slotts Trädgård", which used to be the castle's kitchen garden. Here you will find beautiful flowers and plants as well as interior details for the home. The shop is open at specified times.
CONCERTS
During the summer classical concerts are held in the beautiful Orangery,situated in the Castle park.
WEDDING & PARTY
The castle's Orangery is the perfect venue for weddings & parties with a view over the castle, lake and park.
ÖRBYHUS GOLFCLUB & RESTAURANT
Within the castle area there is a 18 hole golfcourse and a restaurant "Erik XIV". The golf's clubroom was formerly the castle's barn; built in 1876.
