Älvkarleby hembygdsförening
Älvkarleby hembygdsförening, which is part of the Swedish local heritage federation, has i.a. to the task of preserving and making visible the environmental and cultural heritage of the homeland. Part of this is our open-air museum Gammelgården with houses and objects dating back to the 18th century.
We organize midsummer celebrations at our festival place around an unique midsummer pole with strong influences from Åland. Our fiddlers and folk dancers lead the dance around the pole. The national day celebration also takes place at the festival site in collaboration with Älvkarleby municipality.
With the participation and support from Älvkarleby-Skutskärs parish and the municipality we arrange the Byss-Calle Meeting to honor one of Northern Uppland's great fiddlers with great support of fiddlers of today.
During July and August, we have a number of special events at Gammelgården with connections to both song and food traditions. The season ends with us roasting river lamprey on a Saturday afternoon in September, a delicacy dating back to the early Middle Ages.
