The Vendelsjön association
Vendelsjön is one of Uppland's finest bird lakes. Thousands of geese, cranes and swans rest here every year, as well as waders, ducks and their relatives. Almost daily, the resident eagles soar over the lake searching for dinner. The location at the edge of the forest country can be a contributing factor to the diversity.
Ancient cultural settlement
But the lake is also located in an ancient cultural settlement. From the Wolf Pit's bird tower you can see Vendel's church, where the fantastic finds of boat graves were made that gave the name to the "Vendel Age" in the years 550-800
In the northern part of the lake is Örbyhus castle dating back to the Vasa era
The Vendelsjön association
The association was formed more than 20 years ago, in 1996. Since then, thousands of hours have been spent keeping the lake open, healthy, beautiful and accessible. The association's main purpose is practical work with lake cleaning and other activities.
We also want to work to make residents and visitors aware of the lake's importance for people, birds and other animals. In addition, we think that the knowledge of the importance that Vendelsjön and the area have had throughout history, as the scene of Iron Age culture and Vasa intrigues, is important to keep alive.
We work together with the local population, summer residents and other associations in Vendel. We have contacts with the municipality and authorities and collaborate with various contributors to be able to implement large and small improvements around our lake.
