The Swedish king Oscar II visited Laxön to practice bridging in flowing water.

During part of Oscar II's reign 1872 - 1907, Sweden was in union with Norway. In 1880, Svea Ingenjörstrupper established a summer camp on Laxön to train to bridge in flowing water. Oscar II visited Laxölägret on June 9, 1887. In memory of the visit, the memorial stone was erected on the hill next to Bifrosthyddan. In 1890, Oscar II also visited the municipality, when the owners of Skutskär's sawmill gave dinner to the king with companions, including the Crown Prince, future Gustav V.
