Laxön is located in the middle of Älvkarlebyfallen and here the engineer groups had for more than 100 years their summer camp when they practiced bridging over rushing water.
Until the 1880s, the island was best known for its salmon. Both the swedish state, the church and the general public wanted their share of salmon fishing.

At the end of the 1880s, the island was discovered by Svea Ingenjörregementet which made it its summer camp. For 100 years, the soldiers returned to Laxön and Älvkarleby to practice bridging over rushing water.

The military also built all houses that still give the island a unique character today. Most of the houses were built in the late 1800s. Today the houses are renovated and filled with new life and content.

Laxön has a lot to experience today. Here you can eat and enjoy coffee in a fantastic environment, visit ceramics and artist in their studios, shop for fine crafts and take care of body and soul.
